Spotify Wrapped and Christianity: A Wake-Up Call!

What does your playlist say about your faith?

So, Spotify Wrapped is out, and it’s low-key reviewing the type of Christians we’ve been this year. Let’s be real, this isn’t about judging anyone, and I’m not here to say we shouldn’t listen to other genres of music. But here’s some Sunday afternoon food for thought: how do you call yourself a serious Christian, tongue speaking, spirit filled and yet your top 5 songs, artists, and podcasts for the year don’t include a single gospel entry? Not even one? Meanwhile, you’ve racked up 40 to 70 thousand listening hours. Mwakhala muvera chani, boss?

Yes, there’s space for all kinds of music, but 40,000 hours with zero gospel entry in top 5? Tilidi serious Bwana? It makes one pause and think about the balance or maybe even the disconnection from faith. Because let’s be honest, when you see someone’s top 5 all filled with, say, Amapiano hits, achina, Tiyeni! tiyeni tiyeni tiyeni… aaaahh tupita kuti Boss? Tukatani?

Are We Representing?

Apostle Joshua Selman says it best; “Songs are ladders in the spiritual realm.” So the big question is, where have you been ascending to this year with all that listening? Coz the spiritual realm has both madolo a satana and a mulungu, onse understand and use the power of sounds and music to shape minds. So next big question is, Who have you allowed to shape your mind, your thoughts, and your worldview?

Whats even more scary is that this is deeper than just music. This data  reflects so much more your prayer life, Bible study habits, and spiritual focus. Think of it like this: if an ambassador spends all his time abroad but ha zero flags, emblems, or ornaments representing his country, wouldn’t you question his loyalty? Or Ten / twenty minutes into a conversation with him and he doesn’t  mentioned home once? Boss, ambassador wanji ameneyo?  Same way , why is your summary of your 40 thousand listening hours not reflecting your ambassadorship and the King of Kings.

Reflections…….

This isn’t about guilt-tripping anyone, not even saying amene amavera gospel , amene ma top 5 awo ali filled ndi gospel are perfect people, No but it’s a call to check ourselves. Our playlists and habits show where our hearts have been this year. So, as you scroll through your Wrapped, ask yourself: Have I been intentional about my faith? Or has it taken a back seat in the soundtrack of my life? These top 5 artist are feeding into me , what are they feeding me really?

Let’s be the kind of ambassadors whose playlists, habits, and lives reflect where we truly belong. It’s not just about music, it’s about alignment.

Blessed Sunday afternoon. e European languages are members of the same family. Their separate existence is a myth. For science, music, sport, etc, Europe uses the same vocabulary.
